Team-building event: ‘Young People & Members of the Saeima’

April 27, 2023

Latvian youth capital, 2023 - Bauska region, successfully hosted a twinning event between young people and members of the Saeima. In the first part of the event there was a discussion on five important topics organized by Ginta Jankovska, Youth Affairs Specialist of Bauska County and the Society's Time for Youth using the method of World Cafes. Young people and members of the Saeima discussed future young people in Latvia, participation of young people in politics, opportunities of rural youth, non-governmental organisations and their support mechanisms, as well as participation of young people in society. After discussions, a football team from its members and the youth of Bauska region conducted a game of friendship against Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Members. Young people in the football field turned out to be stronger and won with a score of 8:4, as well as won a post-game kick series with a score of 4:3. The event was a successful and positive example of how young people and politicians can work together to address important issues and build a better future for Latvia. Bauska County and its young people have a lot to gain from this twinning event, and we hope that the way forward will be even more successful. Both young people and members of the Saeima said that this type of activity is very useful and would like to participate in it in future, because interaction is necessary. In the afternoon of cohesion - the evening was attended by just over 60 participants and we can conclude that ice has moved between the young people and decision-makers of Bauska region. Young people are our present and their ideas must be realized and developed to make our region and country a more pleasant place for every citizen of Latvia. We will publish a detailed overview of the event and the debate as early as next week. Gints Jankovskis, Head of the Society for Youth, believes that this type of activity changes stereotypes about MEPs and their personalities - MEPs are the same people. I would like to highlight that young people were particularly actively and enthusiastically involved in the discussion and provided our organisation, local government and members of the Saeima with important information for future work. We will work on the Scoreboard to convey them to the municipality and the Saeima. The event was attended by the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers or the Saeima - Jānis Wittenbergs (NA, Minister of Transport) Dāvis M. Dairy (JV, Member of the Saeima), Mārtiņš Felss (JV, Member of the Saeima), Atis Labucis (JV, Member of the Saeima), Richard Cole (NA, Member of the Saeima), Kristaps Krištopāns (LPV, Member of the Saeima), Artjoms Urshulskis (Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Welfare), Andis Bāliņš ( Assistant Member of D.M.Daugavietis), Māris Krūmiņš (Employer of Saeima).
