šŗš¦ Four years in which the world seems to be getting used to the headlines, but people never do. That is too long to call it a ācrisisā. It is a reality in which an aggressor state continues, day after day, to threaten and destroy human lives ā deliberately, purposefully and cynically.
š£ And that is precisely why signals showing that a stance is not merely for show are so important. A Ukrainian skeleton athlete was disqualified at the Olympics because of his helmet, and this is not simply a ātechnical incidentā. It is a stark reminder to democracy: values must be defended even when there is pressure to ānever mix politics into thisā ā politics ended when the war began. But war is not a matter of opinion. And aggression cannot be normalised.
šš» Over the past four years, the association āLaiks JaunieÅ”iemā has taken concrete steps that provide practical help:
š¹ļø Coordinated the collection of humanitarian aid and warehouse operations in Bauska District.
š¹ļø Regularly prepared and delivered aid to Ukraine ā clothing, household items and other everyday necessities.
š¹ļø Involvement in the delivery of a local authority bus as a donation to the town of Malina, so that it could serve the local people and meet their needs.
š¹ļø Support for integration in Latvia: childrenās camps, cultural orientation courses for young people, study trips and other activities that help people understand their new environment, feel safe and build a new daily routine.
š This is not a āone-off gestureā. It is work ā packing boxes, sorting, compiling lists, transport, communication, responsibility. Work that continues even long after the cameras have gone away. We hope that this war will soon come to an end ā with Ukraineās victory, justice and genuine security. Until then, we will not remain silent and we will not let up.
