August 8, 2021

Title of the event:

Location/time: Zoom platform, 08.08.021

Number of participants: 70

Description:

In implementing the project organized by Bauska municipality we trained 70 residents of Bauska municipality in media literacy.

The Society for Young People has collaborated with the newspaper "Bauskas Life" in the organization of the project, non-governmental organization "IREX" and foundation "Medical literacy education centre "Vieddoma" which developed the content and invited people to participate in the classes.

Both academics and practitioners were involved in organising the training. Lectures were led by Professor Klinta Ločmele, Doctor of Communication Studies, Kārlis Dagilis, editor-in-chief of Latvian Radio News Service, Anita Rozentāle, editor-in-chief of Bauskas Life, and journalist Uldis Varnevičs, Kristīne Loginova, coach of youth media literacy.

The most visited were youth classes remotely. The majority of participants applied for them. In three classes - Media Awareness, False News and Manipulation, The Fight Against Disinformation, Young People got what they had just learned at school. I didn't learn half of what I learned here. I really liked the various examples that I've seen in real life, and Jānis Lejaskalns from Riga said. He came on holiday to relax in the country's home, but he turned out to have had meaningful lessons.

Simon Balode attended two classes. I liked training seminars very much. It was very valuable and I would recommend them to everyone, even if you think you know everything. In these times, people may really be confused with the abundance of information and often have difficulty distinguishing truth from lies. So I believe that these classes would be useful to everyone, said S. The ballod, everyone liked it, was interesting, but it would only be good if more people were involved in the lectures.
