Being a good volunteer is cool

✨️ The association “Laiks Jauniešiem” carried out the project “Being a quality volunteer is cool”, funded by the Nordic Council’s Office in Latvia with a grant of 12,000 EUR, from 1 April 2024 to 1 August 2024. carried out the project “Being a quality volunteer is cool”, funded by the Nordic Council’s office in Latvia, with a grant of 12,000 EUR. The main aim of the project was to research, analyse and generate new ideas regarding voluntary work in Latvia, Lithuania and Iceland. We sought various ways to improve the quality of volunteering within our organisations, communities and the country as a whole.

🫶🏻 The project was divided into several planning and implementation phases, namely, first each organisation individually compiled and assessed its existing experience and practices regarding volunteering, so that this could be shared with the project partners as the project progressed. We then undertook an exchange of experiences in each of the countries, observing each country’s real-life experiences first-hand – both in the office and at the sites where voluntary work is carried out.

😍 As our organisation chose partners where the voluntary work carried out by each partner organisation is different – each participating organisation had the opportunity to experience this first-hand, gaining information and factual insights from primary sources. A unique experience to help us take the next steps in improving quality and implementing high-quality voluntary work.

🎉 It is certainly commendable that we have strengthened and promoted inter-organisational cooperation both in volunteering and in the day-to-day running of our operations. Specifically, organisations from Latvia, Lithuania and Iceland have agreed on long-term cooperation within the framework of other projects, as well as in the day-to-day running of their operations. We are already set to implement a large-scale ERASMUS+ partnership project together with our Lithuanian partners, and, drawing on the best practices of our Icelandic partners, we are securing the assistance of foreign volunteers for the activities of the organisation ‘Laiks Jauniešiem’.

📍 The project has been successfully carried out in line with its objectives and tasks, and the funding has been utilised as required. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Nordic Council’s office in Latvia, as well as to the project partners and participants, for the successful implementation of the project.
