Ice-breaker game: ‘Who are we?’

Project Objective

The aim of the project is to promote social cohesion, understanding and open communication between different social groups, particularly in light of recent events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, which have contributed to social division and communication difficulties. We plan to develop a card game called ‘Who We Are’, which will help to foster mutual understanding and open dialogue by offering young people the opportunity to share their experiences and develop their communication skills. The game will be suitable for various social groups and will be used as a long-term tool to promote openness and communication, not only in youth centres, educational institutions, but also in other locations across Bauska Municipality and internationally.

Project Target Group

The project’s target group comprises several interrelated groups. Young people aged between 13 and 25 will be active participants, taking part in the development and testing of the game, providing creative input, as well as taking part in events to present the game. It is anticipated that this group will comprise at least 15 participants. Pupils from educational institutions who will take part in the game’s presentations and sessions at five educational institutions will number approximately 50, and they will familiarise themselves with the game’s concept and gameplay. Members of the association “Laiks jauniešiem”, who will play an active role in implementing the project, will form a group of at least 15 people. The wider community includes all interested parties, including local residents, who will be able to take part in the game’s presentation events, and we anticipate that this group will comprise at least 50 people who will use the game at various events, including after the project has concluded.

Main Activities

  • Developing the game’s content and generating ideas
  • Making corrections and sending the game to the printer
  • Presenting the game at educational institutions in Bauska District
  • Presenting the game at the “Laiks jauniešiem” office
  • Donating the game to educational and local authority institutions

Expected Project Outcomes

The expected outcomes of the project include the development of the game ‘Who We Are’, which will promote mutual understanding and open communication between different social groups, particularly amongst young people. It is expected that at least 15 young people will actively participate in the development of the game, providing a creative contribution. The game will be presented at a launch event, and its distribution will be organised across all educational institutions in the Bauska district to encourage its use in day-to-day activities. It is anticipated that the game will be used in various events and activities throughout Bauska Municipality, helping to build a more open and cohesive society. It will also be available for international activities, representing the Bauska district and fostering communication with other young people outside Latvia.
