Project aim
To develop an accessible and sustainable senior learning programme in the Zemgale Planning Region by providing people aged 65 and over with regular, free non-formal learning activities in at least four subject areas. The programme aims to strengthen seniors’ knowledge and skills for a safe and fulfilling daily life, reduce the risk of social isolation, encourage participation in community life and improve quality of life.
Target group
People aged 65 and over, with particular attention to those who are socially isolated, have limited digital skills or income, experience mobility difficulties, or live farther from Bauska.
Seniors need regular, free in-person classes in familiar and accessible places. They need opportunities to learn practical skills, maintain social connections and feel comfortable joining new activities. Classes will be delivered at a suitable pace, in clear language, with individual support available. Working with libraries will also bring the programme closer to where seniors live.
Main activities
The project will establish a senior learning programme in Bauska Municipality. Over 24 active weeks, it will offer 48 free in-person classes - at least two per week. Each class will last at least two academic hours.
The classes will cover four subject areas, with 12 classes in each. Digital skills classes will cover smartphone and computer use, messaging apps, online public services and internet safety. Social participation and active living classes will encourage cooperation, social connections and involvement in community life. Creative and cultural activities will include practical workshops, collaborative activities and sharing experiences. Lifelong learning and intellectual development classes will offer new knowledge, discussions, and exercises for thinking, memory and attention.
Expected project results
The project will establish and test a practical model for the senior learning programme in Bauska Municipality. At least 100 individual seniors will take part in regular, free in-person classes across the four subject areas.
The activities of the Senior School “Active and Knowledgeable” are implemented within the framework of the supported activity “Support for Senior Schools” of Project No. 4.3.3.3/1/24/I/001 “Support for Social Entrepreneurship”, administered by the Society Integration Foundation as a cooperation partner of the Ministry of Welfare.
